 COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community Service has always been a part of NCC. In the past we have donated and worked with various organizations, such as:

   -  Meals From The Heartland
   -  Rebuilding Together
   -  Food Bank of Iowa

  -  Children and Families of Iowa
   -  Can Do Cancer
   -  DMARC
   -  American Red Cross of Iowa
   -  The FreeStore

Think DONATING, think VOLUNTEERING! Giving is always appreciated! ... and remember to APPRECIATE yourself!

Volunteer Opportunities

Meets at various days of the month at various charities to give back to the community and to serve worthy causes throughout the DM Metro area. Check the newsletter and Facebook for the details each month.

Support the work and mission of Meals From The Heartland and help save starving children — one meal at a time. Volunteer and change a life. Give and make a difference. Every dollar and every hour you give could mean a better life for a hungry child, right here at home or abroad. Every meal is an opportunity for hope, wherever people are undernourished or starving. When you volunteer to fight hunger, not only are you feeding hungry children, but meal packaging is an enjoyable, rewarding experience.   During a 2-hour shift, volunteers pack meals.  It's a great way to visit with NCC members, and the shift is over before you know it!

Rebuilding Together helps our neighbors in need (low-income, elderly, veteran, disabled) by improving the safety and health of their homes. NCC volunteers go to the approved homes to help with light house cleaning, minor repairs, plant flowers, plant flowers, fall cleanup, etc. The "extra hands" uplift our neighbors and help to rebuild their lives.

Hunger isn't a problem that happens somewhere else. It happens right here in Iowa ... in our communities. More people are visiting food pantries because of higher prices for food, fuel, housing, and utilities. Food Bank of Iowa and its 700 partners have broken records in the number receiving food assistance -- the highest in its 40-year history. The Food Bank of Iowa has spent 650% more to purchase food this year

American Red Cross Home

The mission of the American Red Cross is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the
generosity of donors.

Because of the recent Iowa disasters in Spring 2024, NCC took a collection to help people affected by these storms.

The Freestore

The FreeStore supports children and families who have escaped domestic violence situations and those suffering from some other form of trauma including natural disaster and criminal assault.  They provide donated furniture and household goods as these families begin new, independent, productive lives in safe environments.
